URBAN LEGENDS

The curiously Realistic Decoration Myth:

Legend:
The legend of this story is that there was a typical halloween decoration of a woman hanging from a tree, but than later turned out to be a actual woman that hung herself from a tree.

Truth:
On a Tuesday night close to a busy road in Frederica, Delaware a woman 42 years old hung herself from a tree. The body hung there until the next day. The people who saw it just thought it was an halloween decoration since halloween was not far away. But when the people of the town realized it wasnt actually a halloween decoration and it was a real woman hanging from a tree the phone the police to report the suicide.

My Response:

I would say that this story has a good appeal. When I read the myth at first i didn't think it was true. Someone hanging themselves on a tree across from some houses in a public view. It really makes you think about the people in this world, and frankly it terrifys me. I don't think I would take it very well if someone hung themselves across from my house only a few days before halloween.
This myth, or story would be a great creapy halloween story to tell around the campfire or something. It would really bring out the fears in the people listening to it.

There are many issues in africa, one of which is the poverty of African Children. Africa is one of the poorest countries in the world. Many African children dont have a lot of the resources that they need inorder to live good lives. Many lack food, shelter and the basic necessitys. So many children arn't getting chance to go to school and get an education to make a better life for themselves, and girls have a lesser chance of getting into school than the boys.

Facts About Africa Children in Poverty:
  • In many sub-Saharan countries political instabiliy and wars have contributed to poverty.
  • Many people in sub-Saharan Africa living in major poverty grew from having 217 million in 1987 to having more than 300 million in 1998.
  • There is around 200,000 children slaves that are sold in Africa every year.
  • around one in six African children die before turning six.
  • Out of the 57% of African children which are enrolled in primary education, one of three of those children dont complete school.
  • There has been around  12 and 14 million African children which have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
There are many groups out there helping the African children and i think thats great. But a bigger step people take that i think is even better is missions to africa. I think those people are amazing, their willing to take time out of their life to go to Africa and build houses for the African people or schools for the children. That is something I would love to do to help out is to go to Africa and help out building schools or houses. I think it would be a great experience and it would be a great feeling knowing that your doing something good for te world, your making a difference.
